My sister shared this video on Facebook and I thought I should share it here with all of you. I couldn't help but cry at the beauty of this story. Animals are amazing.

Thursday 13: Brought to You by the Letter "F"
*Idea from Alisha at Izzy, Emmy 'N Alexander*
1. Fabio – I do not understand why women think he’s attractive. In fact, I would have to say that I find him unattractive.
2. Faint – I’ve never fainted nor have seen anyone faint.
3. Fall – I’ve decided that it beats spring as my favorite season. Congratulations, Autumn!
4. Farsighted – My mom and I are both farsighted. My glasses magnify my eyes and I was once told by a classmate that I looked like a “bug-eyed grasshopper.” Eighth-graders have great lines.
5. Fiction – The majority of what I read.
6. Fingerprint – I had to be fingerprinted in order to get my teaching license. Apparently the state doesn’t want criminals teaching its children.
7. Fish – I love fish, especially salmon. Unfortunately, I’m lacking in knowledge of how to prepare it (and more than likely the skills to do so).
8. Flapper – I dressed as one for Halloween back in college. The 1920s are my favorite decade.
9. Florida – Mitch and I are taking a vacation down there in January. I can hardly wait!
10. Flute - I played this instrument from the fifth grade through my senior year of high school. If I could go back I would play the violin instead.
11. Forrest Gump – One of my dad’s favorite movies. He’s probably watched it 5,000 times and quotes it way too much. I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing a clip or hearing a line from this movie and be happy.
12. Frugal – You’ll find a picture of Mitch and me in the dictionary next to this definition.
13. Fudge – One of the few chocolate treats that I don’t enjoy.

It Wasn't Meant to be
I grew up in a house that had these two magnets on the kitchen refrigerator:
Sharon is my mother. Andrea is my sister.
Where is the Holly magnet you ask? Well, it seems that this magnet didn't come with that name and I have been forever left out of the rolling-pin fun.
So, here's what I figure: The lack of a Holly magnet is a sign. The fact that my parents couldn't find one with my name must mean that Hollys are not kitchen kind of gals.
See, it's not my fault that I'm not domesticated . . .

Friday Finds
If you're looking for a place to buy cheap prescription glasses, check out Zenni Optical. I've heard good things about this site!
Perhaps I will now replace my glasses that have little teeth marks all over the left lens. (She's lucky she's cute.)
Happy Friday!

Thursday 13: Farm Photos
I'm going to take a little break from the alphabet game for this week's Thursday 13. I wanted to use this post to share some of the photos I snapped at my grandparents' farm during my visit last week.

Summer by the Window
Mitch and I were able to keep the windows open while we slept last night. One of my favorite things about summer is having the cool, sweet-smelling air streaming into the house all night long.
Plus, having the blinds up and being able to watch the sun rise from bed is not too shabby either. How can you not have a great day when it starts like this?

Friday Finds
I'm currently in the process of making a 101 in 1001 list (I got sucked in and I'm very excited about it!). I've been working on it at Day Zero and have enjoyed looking at lists made by other people to get some inspiration. While perusing lists yesterday, I came upon two things I had never heard of (I have a feeling I'm behind with the times and that everyone else knows about these):
100 Strangers - The goal of this challenge is to take 100 photos of 100 strangers and get to know them a little. Talk about leaving your comfort zone! What a fun (and scary) idea!
Operation Beautiful - The goal of this activity is to end negative self-talk by posting anonymous, positive notes in public places for other women to find. Another wonderful idea!
Happy Friday!

Thursday 13: Brought to You by the Letter "E"
*Idea from Alisha at Izzy and Emmy.*
1. Earplugs – I wear them to bed. I’m a light sleeper and Mitch snores; not a good combination.
2. Eggs – I usually eat them fried over-hard. Once in a while I enjoy them scrambled with cheese.
3. England – If I can only visit one foreign country, this would be the place.
4. Elevators – I don’t particularly enjoy riding in them. I’m a bit claustrophobic and often worry I’m going to get trapped in one.
5. Elf – Probably my favorite Christmas movie.
6. Encyclopedias – My parents have a set. I like the smell of them. They were quite handy in grade school; you know, back before the internet and all.
7. Emeril – Mitch and I used to use his “Asian Essence” seasoning in our stir-fry, but it is no longer made. This made me so very sad.
8. Energy – Where can I get more of it? I’m running quite low these days.
9. Escalators – I love riding on them; a much better way to get someplace than elevators (or those things called stairs which require way too much work!)
10. Estimation – It was quite difficult to work on this skill with my 7th-grade students.
11. Etch-a-Sketch – My sister and I had several growing up. Even my dad enjoyed playing with them.
12. Everybody Loves Raymond – I’m so sick of this show. Every other channel airs reruns of this program – enough already!
13. Eyes – My husband has nystagmus which basically means his eyes are constantly twitching back and forth. Some days they twitch more than others or faster than others; it’s quite interesting.

Book Quote: Alias Grace
I thought it would be fun activity to start sharing a quote I enjoyed from my current read. (At the rate I'm going through books lately, there won't be many!)
Here is a line from Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood that made me laugh out loud. That doesn't happen very often when I'm reading, but I couldn't help it at this perfect description:
"So I cannot sit here without thinking of the ladylike bums that have sat on this very settee, all delicate and white, like wobbly soft-boiled eggs."

Missing: Brownie Chunks
Dear Dairy Queen,
Your Chocolate Xtreme Blizzard used to be absolutely wonderful. I'm saddened to say that this summer, however, your "chocoholic" icecream treat has been nothing but a let down. I have ordered it several times in the past couple of months and have received nothing but a cup of icecream with a few chocolate shavings. What happened to the brownie chunks? They made this Blizzard. They need to be in that cup.
Because my Blizzard this past Saturday was so ridiculously boring, I had to add my own M&Ms when I got home. What would I have done had I not had a stash of chocolate candies in my freezer? Things would not have been pretty.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed in you and have no interest in continuing this relationship until the brownie chunks return. Don't expect a birthday present from me.
Holly

Thursday 13: Brought to You by the Letter "D"
*Idea from Alisha at Izzy and Emmy.*
1. Deadheading – I thought my daisies were goners so I took them to my mom to see if she could revive them. She laughed at me and said that all they needed was to be deadheaded. I had never heard of such a thing - this getting domesticated stuff is hard!
2. Decisions – I can’t make 'em. Mitch loves that about me. *Wink*
3. Denim – I hate that I can’t find a pair of jeans that doesn’t have spandex in it. Jeans should not be stretchy in my opinion.
4. Dermatologist – I’ve never been to one. I may have to go in the near future, though, because I have these weird spots that are multiplying on my legs.
5. Designing Women – Loved that show!
6. Diapers – I love the sound they make when children are scooting around.
7. Diaries – I had two growing up. I was never very good at writing in them.
8. Dictionary – I keep mine by the novel I’m currently reading so if I don’t know a word I can look it up right away. Dictionaries are great fun.
9. Dormitory – I lived in the dorms for my first three years of college. My first two roommates left a lot to be desired but my third roommate was absolutely wonderful.
10. Doughnut – My favorite kinds are the ones with jelly in the middle.
11. Dragonflies – I think they are beautiful and even kind of cute. It makes me happy to see them flying around our yard.
12. Dressing – Mitch doesn’t use any dressing on his salads. Waiters/waitresses look kind of surprised when he says “no dressing.” I’m a ranch girl.
13. Dumplings – Dumplings and sauerkraut would definitely be one of the foods at my last meal.
