Feelin' Special

I'm special! Look at my award!

Thanks, Stacy!

The rules:
Accept and thank the person who gave it to you!
List 10 things about yourself.
List 5 things you don't like.
Pick ten people to give this lovely award to!

About Me:

1. I have 10 aunts and uncles on each side of the family. On my dad's side of the family there are seven girls and four boys. On my mom's side of the family there are seven boys and four girls. Weird, huh?

2. I am four years older than Mitch and my sister is a year older than him. We tease him about being the baby of the family. He gets back at me, though, by saying things like "Remember when you were a freshman in high school and I was a fifth grader?"

3. Mitch and I don't buy each other gifts for special occasions (i.e. birthdays, anniversary, Christmas). We'd rather save our money to DO things together.

4. I love eating cherry pie filling out of the can. It has to be cold, though.

5. I think orange juice goes with just about everything. Mitch was disgusted yesterday to learn that I had a glass with my pizza at lunch.

6. I'd rather have pie than cake. Peach pie is my favorite.

7. I enjoy reading instruction manuals.

8. I think babies are overrated. Give me the three-year olds.

9. I don't wear make-up of any kind; I don't even own any.

10. I have my belly-button pierced.

Dislikes:

1. Being cold. I function well at 80 degrees.

2. Being hungry.

*Combine 1 & 2 together and you have a VERY crabby Holly. Mitch can attest to that.*

3. Whistling. I find this to be one of the most obnoxious sounds to hit my ears. I could tolerate a lot of noises in my classroom, but whistling was not one of them. If a student started whistling, I would immediately say "This is not a whistle while we work classroom. Whoever it is, please stop!"

4. I have to copy Stacy here and say wind. Bad state to live in if you don't like the wind.

5. When people don't know when to use lend versus borrow. I actually had a college English professor say to a classmate of mine, "I'll borrow you my book." REALLY?

If you want to feel special, too, go ahead and accept this award from me!

There's Always an Upside

Insomnia runs in my family. My maternal grandmother has problems sleeping as does my father.

While it's frustrating to toss and turn all night and walk around in a daze during the afternoons,

it's wonderful being awake for the sunrise.

So, insomnia, thank you for mornings.

Late Night Memories

I still think about you. I don't think anyone knows that but me. For some reason, my thoughts of you come mostly at night when I can't sleep. Perhaps that is because we have so many late night memories together. We have so many memories, period.

You helped me with one of my architecture models by volunteering to take on the excruciating task of teeny tiny toilet making.

You took me to the emergency room when I sliced my pinkie on a broken glass while doing the dishes.

You were Ms. Moon and I was Ms. Sunshine.

You ran around the apartment complex with me, splashing in the rain puddles.

You were the one who looked after me while I was on muscle relaxants and all I could do was lay on the couch and giggle.

You knew when I had been up at night cleaning even if I hadn't made a peep.

You made me a certificate for dancing at our friends' wedding when you knew how hard it was for me to get out on the floor.

You were completely honest with me about my clothing choices. I still hear your voice telling me I can't pull it off when I see a shirt with ruffles.

You never hesitated to buy new books and let me borrow them even if you hadn't yet read them yourself.

You brought home movies for us to watch after your shifts at the video store.

You pointed out that "indeed" cannot be placed just anywhere in a paper. You also pointed out my excessive comma use, which I think is still a problem.

You chatted with me online even though we were only twenty feet away from one another.

You loved me like a sister.

I understand that life takes people down different paths but that doesn't mean I'll ever stop missing the road we traveled together.

I still think about you.

Someone Noticed

I didn't think anyone would notice, but apparently I was wrong:

Yes, Monica, I have been a bad blogger this week. My deepest apologies! I will be back next week full force.

Thursday 13: March in Review

Thirteen tidbits from the month of March that I never got around to mentioning.

1. Crickett got her first haircut. When the gal at the pet store asked us in clipper length how short we wanted Crickett’s hair and we said we had no idea, she showed us swatches of fur! I never knew there were so many decisions to make for a dog’s hair. In any case, our little girl came home about half the size she left and at least twice as adorable.

2. Another library book sale. (Yes, you have to hear about another one.) I went in expecting to pay per pound and was pleasantly surprised to find out it was only $1.00 per bag. I got 21 books for $1.00 - my best year yet!

3. I rearranged the furniture in the living room. The new layout is so much better - I wish I would have thought of it sooner!

4. Mitch and I put the phrase "Always Kiss Me Goodnight" in vinyl letters above our headboard. Clocks were also hung in the bathrooms. Slowly, but surely, I'll get the walls in this house covered. It's only been about 15 months, after all!

5. When I told my parents about the burn on my arm, my dad said "Did you not know the pan was hot?" Thanks, dad.

6. I found a new purse!

7. Crickett advanced from "puppy" to "dog" food. She seems to like the new kibble more than the last - she'll actually eat out of her bowl instead of waiting for me to throw the food all over the floor.

8. I read A Reliable Wife. I was not impressed in the least.

9. The new recipe for the month was "Pineapple Sweet & Sour Chicken." It was delicious, green peppers and all. (And because I didn't mention it, February's new recipe was "Easy Cheesebuttons.” While it was a good dish, it was no substitute for the real thing.)

10. I got in one measly run. I have been less than consistent with that since my race in September. Hoping to catch a motivation bug here soon.

11. America's Next Top Model started its 14th cycle and I got sucked back in yet again. I guess everyone has a guilty pleasure or two.

12. Mitch, Crickett, and I took our first family walks of the year. It's great to see the neighborhood buzzing with activity again.

13. Before one of our walks, Mitch decided he would change into shorts He was nervous about them not fitting and when he discovered they still fit said "This is going to be a good summer." I love the things my husband says.
