Honeymoon Days 7 & 8

I'm a little behind - okay, a lot behind. For some reason, I never finished up my honeymoon posts, so here is the last one (only two months after my husband and I got back!).

On our last day in Honolulu, my husband and I had to be checked-out of our hotel by noon. Our flight didn't leave until 10:00 that night, so we decided to rent a car in order to have somewhere to store our bags and the ability to leave the Waikiki area for a few hours if we so desired. While waiting for the rental car to be delivered, I decided to take some photos of the view from our hotel room. Our last day on the island was the only sunny day we had so I had to document it!

Our hotel was a three-minute walk from Waikiki Beach.

The cluster of trees is where the Honolulu Zoo is located.

Our hotel's pool, only open until 6:00 pm!

Our rental car was to be dropped off around 11:00 but the car never showed up. My husband called the rental company and was told that they didn't have a car for us, that the man he had spoken to the previous night (the one who told us there was a car) must have been confused. Needless to say we were a little upset. Calls to other rental companies left us with nothing as well. This meant we had no home for our bags. This meant we had to go to the airport early. So, after eating some lunch, my husband and I hopped on the city bus and rode for an hour to the airport. It was an interesting trip, to say the least - lots of 'unique' people and less-than-desirable locations.

We arrived at the airport around 3:00, which left us with 7 hours before our flight! The time actually went quite quickly, but I was definitely ready for bed by the time we got on the plane. Sleep was not in the cards for me, however, as we were seated a row across and behind a young man with the flu. I got to enjoy the sounds of vomiting through the majority of the flight. I did thank my lucky stars, though, that my only problem was no sleep. A plane is definitely not some place I'd want to be with the flu.

Six hours later, our plane landed in Las Vegas. We enjoyed a three hour layover - my highlight was the Cinnabon and my husband's was the slot machine.

From Las Vegas, we flew into Denver. We had another three hour layover here, but there were no 'highlights.' Fifteen minutes before our plane was supposed to leave, they made an announcement that our flight had been cancelled due to mechanical problems. Well, the waterworks started with this girl - I was exhausted (we missed one night of sleep with the crazy flight times and time changes) and I just wanted to get back home (we were only an hour and a half away!). The airline put us up in a hotel for the night and rescheduled our flight for the next morning.

The next morning, our flight left on time and we arrived back home. Despite the cold temperatures, it was great to be back in North Dakota. While I love vacations, it's always nice to be back home.

The sunset on our last night in Honolulu.

WOW....that sunset was awesome! Sorry about the rental car....that was a bummer!!

There is something nice about "coming home". Every time I have a vacation I am ALWAYS ready to be back at home...sleeping in my own bed.
