Cosmos

A couple of months ago some teachers and I were talking about gardening during our lunch break. Well, I only had two statements to contribute and one of those was an explanation of my inability to tell the difference between weeds and plants but that's beside the point. My second tidbit was a mention of wanting to plant something around my house that attracts butterflies. None of the teachers really had any suggestions at the time; I figured they were probably still trying to wrap their minds around another one of my deficiencies in the domestic department.

Two weeks ago, I was sitting in the lounge during lunch when the technology teacher set a little styrofoam cup in front of me. It was filled with greenery and while I wasn't completely sure, I assumed it was a plant and not a cup of weeds. The teacher informed me that his wife plants Cosmos around their house and the flower attracts butterflies. I could hardly believe that he remembered our conversation, let alone brought a plant and a packet of seeds in for me. Some people have a lot of faith in other people.

I've had this little plant for fourteen days now and while it hasn't always looked so good during that time, it hasn't died. In fact, I would venture to say it's even grown a little. I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to be doing in regards to sun and water, but I do know that when I knock the cup over, I need to replace the dirt that has spilled out. That counts for something, right?

Oh that was nice of him to remember your conversation! I hope that the plant continues to grow. Maybe we'll see some pictures of butterflies soon! Aw, I love butterflies! They make me so happy.

I love gardening, we grow tomatoes, peppers and so many other vegetables. Flowers as well .. such a rewarding experience :)

My aunt used to do gardening and told us not to grow "Chanbili" flowers (I don't know the english name for it) .. because they are very sweet smelling night flowers and they attract snakes.
