Friday Finds

Where did the last week and a half go?  My goodness!

I saw this on Facebook and really liked it so I thought I would share it here!  It's so very true! (Now to remind myself of this when I'm worrying . . . )

Happy Friday!

Crazy Puppy Parents

I suspect Crickett is hoping that Mitch and I have children so that we stop doing these kinds of things to her.

I love the "You guys are completely crazy" look.

Oh how we love our patient little fur baby.

Happy Birthday, Sissy!

I hope 28 is an amazing year for you. Happy Birthday, beautiful little sister!

March 2012

Updates from March 2012.

March 3, 2012 – The library held their spring used book sale.  In previous years, the deal I got was $1.00 per bag.  I'm not sure the library is doing that anymore - after all, how do they make any money? - but I was more than happy to pay $0.50 per pound because the money goes to a good cause.  I got 15 books for $4.00 which averages out to about $0.27 per book.  You still can't beat prices like that.

Here are the books I added to my collection:

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
You Remind Me of Me by Dan Chaon (Currently reading - very good!)
The Hours by Michael Cunningham
Christmas: A Celebration in Words and Paintings Selected by Helen Exley
Welcome to the World, Baby Girl by Fannie Flagg
Plainsong by Kent Haruf
A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby
Time Will Darken It by William Maxwell
Charming Billy by Alice McDermott
Rolling Thunder by Mark Mynheir
Kabul Beauty School by Deborah Rodriguez
A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell
Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
Women of the Silk by Gail Tsukiyama
Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland

March 19th – Mitch and I saw comedian Jim Gaffigan.  We both love his material and when we found out he was going to be in the state, we knew we had to make the short road trip to see him.  It was so much fun watching Gaffigan perform and hearing his new material.  By the end of the show, my face actually hurt from so much smiling and laughing.  Unfortunately, cameras were not allowed so I didn't get to take any photos - bummed about that.  Oh well.

March 24th - Skated in my third roller derby bout!  (More details to come in my "official" roller derby update post.)

March 27th – I got summoned for jury duty for the first time in my life!  There were about 30 of us in the pool, 12 people got selected from the pool for questioning, and then the group of 12 was reduced to six.  I knew that even if I had made it into the group of 12 that were questioned, I would never have been one of the six chosen to stay for the case.  When you're related to a police officer, you're usually not an ideal candidate for the defense.  In any case, it was an interesting couple of hours.  It was a DUI case and I found out later that Mitch had actually dealt with the defendant on a different occasion.

There you have it - little updates from the first three months in 2012.  Hopefully I can keep this blog updated now as things are actually happening!

February 2012

Life updates from February 2012.

February 4th - Skated in my second roller derby bout.  Even more fun than the first one!  (I'll talk more about it when I do my official "roller derby update" post.)

February 10th - My sister recently joined a small group of artists to help form a local artist co-op.  They have rented an old building downtown and have set up a beautiful little gallery.  While I wasn't able to make it to their opening reception in December, I did make it to their February show.  So many incredible pieces of art - I wish I was rich so I could fill my house with the beautiful work of local talent.  Here is my sister with her "Burn, Breath, Grow, Flow" series.

February 18th - My sister returned to skating after a little "break"!  (More details to come with my official "roller derby update" post.)

February 20th - Sissy and I spent the afternoon doing some thrifting.  Among her finds was a giant ball of yarn that I thought looked like a spaghetti-covered meatball.  This was also the first time I had ever visited our local antique mall.  I can't believe I had never been there - the place is amazing!  I think my jaw dropped the minute we walked in and didn't close until we left the building.  Next time I go, I'm scheduling lots of time so that I can fill my camera card up with all the amazing photo opportunities!

Tomorrow: March 2012 update!

January 2012

I can't believe it's already the tenth of April; this year is sure flying by!  I also can't believe how little I've blogged and how few visits I've made to other blogs.  I'm hoping that I can turn this trend around soon!

So, now onto updates from the past three months that I never blogged about at the time!  Tonight's agenda is January 2012.

January 1st - Mitch and I began a competition with my parents to see who can find the most money throughout the year.  At this point in time things are looking quite bleak for hubs and me.

January 7th - I skated in my first roller derby bout! So much fun! (Stay tuned for an official "roller derby update" post coming soon.)

January 9th - I started my final semester of school!  I am currently taking Cost Accounting (interesting and lots of fun), Government and Nonprofit Accounting (awful, awful, awful), Income Tax II (bleh), Audit II (love-hate relationship), and Business Policy (worthless).  I will be done in just a few weeks!  YAY!

Tomorrow's goal: February 2012 update!

Happy Easter!
