Friday Find
Do you like free stuff? Of course you do! If you're in the mood for an Oatmeal Dark Chocolate cookie, head on over to Kashi's site. The company is currently giving away cookies to anyone who signs up. This is not the first time they've done a promo like this - I've received a bag of trail mix from them before and it was delicious. Keep an eye on their site for other delicious (and healthy!) offers.

Students: Mrs. W., why didn't you dress up for Nerd Day?
Me: I'm a math teacher, so that means I'm always a nerd.

Wii Weekend
My grandparents came to town this weekend, so my husband and I were able to get in a lot of fun family time.
Friday night was spent playing cards, which I love, but I would have to say that Saturday night was the highlight of the weekend. That evening, my cousin and her husband introduced all of us to the Wii. I must say I didn't quite buy all the hype, but now I'm sold - it is a very fun gaming system! Plus, it's a great workout - I was actually sore the next day!
My dear grandma bowling. Does it get much cuter than this?
My grandpa and uncle boxing. My grandpa may be closing in on 80, but he has one of the youngest spirits I've ever seen. I still cannot believe that I saw my grandparents playing on a Wii this weekend!
My parents boxing.
My husband and cousin's husband boxing. My husband really got into the boxing, ducking and all.
Me and my aunt boxing. I actually knocked her out in the first round on our first match! Perhaps I've found my calling!
This weekend was one of those weekends that made me realize (once again) how awesome my family is and how lucky I am to be living here by them.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Friday Find
Last week, Amber shared a wonderful artist with us for her Friday Find. Her post got me thinking about an artist whose work I find to be inspiring, so I thought I would be a copy-cat and share an artist with you this week.
I find the collection of work at Bone Sigh Arts to be incredibly beautiful and moving. Not only do I love the watercolor and doodles the artist creates for her prints, but the words always blow me away. I have a print of hers that brings tears to my eyes and puts a lump in my throat every time I read it - it describes me and my life perfectly. This woman is very talented.

A Hole
My husband and I have a hole!
After running a few errands this evening, my husband asked me if I wanted to drive by our lot to see if anything had been done. Much to our surprise (and delight!), the builders have started digging! I can't tell you how thrilled I am to finally see something happening!
Who knew a person could get so excited about a hole in the ground!

Double Nickels
My dad turned "double nickels" (55) on Saturday. To help him celebrate his birthday, my mom played hostess with the mostess and invited a bunch of their friends over. So, on a Saturday night, my husband and I were partying with a group of people who can order off the senior menus. Seriously, though. my parent's friends are a lot of fun and I have always hoped that I will have the same thing when I'm their age. The sad thing about all of this is that most of these couples act younger than my husband and I do! Perhaps these "youngsters" should take notes and from the "oldies."
My dad opening his presents.
My sister and her coffee pot outfit.
For practice, my husband gave my dad a few sobriety tests. His first test was "follow the stick with your eyes," which he failed.
Here is my dad failing the "put one foot in front of the other and walk in a straight line" test.
My dad went on to fail the third and final test, which was standing on one leg and counting to 30. It's a good thing he only had to travel up a few stairs that night, which he managed safely.
Happy Birthday to my father who doesn't even read this blog - to my father who doesn't even know how to turn on a computer!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a great Monday!

Skirt Enthusiast
I am a skirt enthusiast. No doubt about it, this girl is a skirt girl.
During the summer I wear nothing but skirts unless my husband and I are planning on going somewhere (we're going "green" so going anywhere requires biking). I find skirts extremely comfortable and oh so much cuter than shorts. At work I try to wear skirts as long as I possibly can because I don't have many dress pants (Does anyone else have an incredibly hard time finding pants that fit normally? You're only allowed to answer no here. If you tell me you don't have a hard time, I don't want you coming around this blog anymore. Just kidding!) and since the majority of the year is spent wearing pants, I want some variety while I can! No need to get bored with clothes after the first month of school.
Today as I was about to start teaching, one of my students asked how many skirts I have. I have worn a skirt all but one day this school year so I could understand how she might be curious. I honestly couldn't give her a number so I responded with "Enough to make my husband say I have a ridiculous amount." Curious about a number, I got all my skirts out this evening and counted.
In my defense, I've bought almost all of them on clearance at $3 or so. Plus, I've received skirts as gifts. Therefore, I have others feeding my addiction which makes them part of the problem, too.

Holiday Weekend
I spent the majority of my Labor Day weekend working on lesson plans for this upcoming week, but I did manage to squeeze in a little fun and relaxation, too!
I spent Saturday morning and afternoon working. Later, my parents, husband, and I received a tour of my sister's cute new home before having dinner at one of our favorite Italian restaurants. After dinner, my husband and I spent the evening watching movies with my parents.
I spent most of Sunday morning and afternoon working, then the hubby and I went and picked out our lighting fixtures for the house. (A house that hasn't even been started yet, if you're wondering!) That evening, we had dinner with my in-laws and played a few games of hearts.
I finished up my work by early afternoon today. I'm now caught up and a tiny bit ahead in all my classes. Hopefully I can get a lot done during the week so I can stay ahead. I chose to give myself a break this afternoon and evening and enjoyed the cool, rainy day with my book ("Water for Elephants") and a little nap. My mother made a delicious vegetable soup and beer bread for dinner and now I'm unwinding before bed. This long weekend was definitely needed!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! Happy first day of September!
